The compass is the reason to buy a good set

Its hinge is stiff enough that the radius holds while you draw, and that single property decides whether a construction comes out correct.

A compass that drifts even slightly through an arc produces a figure that will not close — and the student usually blames their own method rather than the instrument.

The point and the pencil arm are set at matched lengths so the compass stands perpendicular on the page. A misaligned compass produces an ellipse rather than a circle without ever looking obviously wrong, which is a particularly frustrating way to lose marks in a geometry question you actually understood.

Markings that do not wear off

Graduations on the scale and protractor are printed and then sealed rather than surface-painted. Painted graduations wear off from exactly the places you handle most, and a protractor missing the numbers between 30 and 60 degrees is worse than useless — because you will not notice until you have already misread one.

Acrylic thick enough not to flex

Thin set squares bow slightly under pen pressure and produce lines that are almost straight, which is the kind of error that compounds across a multi-step construction.

A metal case, not a plastic shell

Plastic catches break, usually inside a bag, and the set then distributes itself through your belongings. The metal case closes flat and is sized to fit inside a standard pencil pouch without forcing it.

Examination-safe by design

Every item in the set is permitted in board examinations. Instruments carrying printed conversion tables, formula strips or advanced markings are routinely confiscated at the door, and this set carries none of them for exactly that reason — though it is worth checking any set before an examination, not only this one.

Take it out of the case and use it before the examination rather than on the day. A compass has a feel to it, and the difference between an instrument you have drawn fifty circles with and one straight out of a case is real, if small.

Small differences matter in a paper where a construction either closes or does not.

This is a school and board examination set, not a draughtsman's kit. There is no divider, no adjustable set square, no French curve and no lettering guide. If you need those, you need a technical drawing set — and this is not it.
