About this product
An A2 periodic table — 420 by 594 millimetres — printed for a wall you actually study in front of, rather than reduced from a textbook page and enlarged until it blurs. The type size is the whole design decision. A table you have to walk up to and lean into is a table you stop consulting after the first week. Everything here is sized to be read from across a normal room, which means fewer elements' worth of secondary data on the sheet and considerably more white space than a reference chart would carry. Atomic numbers, symbols, names and standard atomic weights follow current IUPAC values. Weights are given to the precision actually used at HSC level rather than to the full published precision, because a wall chart that shows six decimal places for every element is displaying data you will never use at the cost of legibility for data you will. Element groups are distinguished by tone rather than by a rainbow of colours. Alkali metals, alkaline earths, transition metals, the metalloid staircase, the halogens, the noble gases and the lanthanide and actinide series are each readable at a glance without a legend, and the whole sheet stays quiet enough to live on a wall you look at every day. The lanthanides and actinides are placed in their conventional detached rows beneath the main body, with the gap in periods 6 and 7 clearly marked. This is the layout every board and admission paper assumes, and learning the table in a non-standard arrangement creates a small but real disadvantage later. It is laminated on both sides. This is a study object, not a decoration: it will be taped up, taken down when you move room, taped up again, and it has to survive damp weather during the monsoon without the ink lifting or the sheet cockling. Lamination also means you can write on it with a whiteboard marker and wipe it clean. It ships flat rather than rolled, in a rigid backed envelope. A rolled poster curls at the corners for a month regardless of how you tape it, and a laminated rolled poster keeps its curl considerably longer than a paper one. Where you put it matters more than most people expect. Above the desk is the obvious choice and the wrong one, because you will not look up while working. The wall you face when you sit down, or the one beside a door you pass several times a day, produces far more incidental repetition, which is the only reason a wall chart works at all. One honest note: a poster teaches recognition, not understanding. Having the table on your wall will make symbols, positions and group memberships automatic over a few months, which is genuinely useful in an examination. It will not teach you periodic trends, and no amount of looking at it will substitute for working through why those trends exist. Delivery takes 2 working days inside Dhaka and 3-5 working days elsewhere, with a tracking number by SMS. Cash on delivery is available in Dhaka, Chittagong and Sylhet.
